Held the last Thursday of every month at 6:30 p.m., each of Taverna Fiorentina’s wine dinners showcase varietals from a featured region. The evening begins in an intimate private dining space, the Tuscan Room, with an antipasti reception of artisanal meats and Italian cheeses, followed by a four-course pairing dinner with select wines. A sommelier leads guests through each course, sharing the background of the wine region and describing the wines. Taverna Fiorentina’s upcoming dinners will feature wines from the following:
· April 24 – Rodney Strong Vineyards from Sonoma County, Calif.
· May 29 – Feudi di San Gregario winery from Campania, Italy
· June 26 – Antinori Vineyards from Tuscany
The wine dinner is merely a preview of the exceptional Italian dining experience Taverna Fiorentina. The restaurant specializes in homemade pasta and old-world techniques for its classic dishes. As is integral to the authenticity of an Italian kitchen, chef Paolo Tondo sources his produce from local farmers markets and purveyors, and shops for all ingredients himself to ensure the utmost quality.
Taverna Fiorentina’s dinner menu begins with antipasti of regional favorites such as carpaccio di manzo cipriani, thinly sliced raw beef tenderloin with mesclun greens and Dijon crème; followed by insalate selections including barbabietola, noci e uvetta sultanina, roasted beets, bacon, walnuts and raisins; and a classic Caesar with poached egg, anchovies, croutons and shaved parmigiano. Regional pasta dishes are also featured with signature items such as house tortellini with roasted duck and creamy porcini mushroom sauce; and black ink linguini al cartoccio with ink infused linguini baked in parchment with calamari and mussels. Hearty main dishes showcase an array of meat entrees including coniglio alla Genovese, slow roasted rabbit marinated with red wine and herbs and veal osso bucco, braised veal shank served over risotto Milanese.
Taverna Fiorentina is also open for lunch, and serves lighter selections such as a grilled vegetable plate with seasonal produce and parmigiano and a paninis that include chicken with pesto and caprese.
Accompanying the food menu is an award-winning wine list, carefully crafted by co-owner and sommelier Jasmin Scott. Selections feature the best of exquisite Tuscan wines, regional reds and whites, as well as few new world favorites.
The intimate dining room transcends sense of community and old world charm with Florentine tables and rustic, artisan-made chandeliers, while a private space offers a charming event venue.
